Privacy policy

1. The short version
Anakel has no user accounts, collects no data about you and does not track you. Your whole collection — items, collections, notes, covers, loans — lives in a database inside your phone and is never sent to a server of ours, because we don't have one.
The only things that leave your phone are the ones you trigger: searching for a title or scanning a barcode queries a public catalogue, and buying Plus is charged by your phone's store. It's all detailed below.
2. Who we are
Anakel is a personal collection app developed and published by MTTechDev, from Peru. This policy covers the Anakel app and this website.
This website collects nothing either. No cookies, no analytics, no third-party fonts or resources: everything you see here is served from this same domain, which is why there's no cookie banner. Its absence isn't an oversight — there's simply nothing to consent to.
3. What Anakel stores, and where
Anakel stores, on your device only:
- The items you catalogue and all their fields: title, author, year, rating, status, notes.
- Your collections, mixed ones included.
- The notes inside each entry: characters, plot, how it ends, quotes, words, what to order.
- Covers, both the ones a public catalogue downloads and the ones you pick yourself.
- Loans: who you lent something to, and since when.
- Your settings: theme, accent colour, home sort and view.
- The trash, until you empty it.
All of that lives in a local database (SQLite) inside the app's private storage. There is no cloud copy and no sync: nobody but you, on that device, can read it.
4. What Anakel does not do
- There is no user account. You cannot sign up or log in, because the feature doesn't exist. We don't ask for an email address, a phone number or a name.
- There is no server of ours. Anakel doesn't send your collection anywhere.
- There is no analytics. No Google Analytics, no Firebase Analytics, no Crashlytics, no measurement SDK of any kind.
- There are no ads and no advertising identifiers (no AAID on Android, no IDFA on iOS).
- There is no profiling and no automated decision-making about you.
- We don't sell or share data with anyone, not least because we don't have any.
5. What leaves your phone, and when
There are four moments — and only four — when the app uses the network or the system for something that leaves the device. You trigger all four.
5.1 Searching for a title or scanning a barcode
When you scan a code or search for a title, Anakel queries a public catalogue depending on the item type, and sends it the code or the text you searched for — nothing else:
- Books:
openlibrary.org, andcovers.openlibrary.orgfor the cover. - Music:
musicbrainz.org, andcoverartarchive.orgfor the cover. - Films, series, games and others:
query.wikidata.org.
We don't send them who you are, what else is in your collection, or an identifier that follows you between queries. They will, like any web service, see your IP address and the request. They are third-party services with their own policies, linked in section 8.
If you don't scan and don't search, Anakel makes no network requests at all. You can catalogue by hand with the phone in airplane mode, indefinitely.
5.2 The first time you scan
The scanner uses Google ML Kit. To save around 15 MB of download, the barcode recognition model doesn't ship inside the app: Google Play Services downloads it the first time you open the scanner on that device. The practical consequences, worth knowing up front:
- That first time needs a connection. With no network, the scanner won't work yet.
- On a device without Google Play Services, the scanner isn't available. Everything else in the app is.
- From the second time on, recognition happens entirely on the phone.
5.3 Buying Plus
The purchase is processed by Google Play (or the App Store on iOS) and managed by RevenueCat, which receives an anonymous purchase identifier so it knows whether your plan is active.
Anakel never sees or stores payment data: no card, no address, no name. The store doesn't give them to us.
Your purchase is tied to your Google or Apple account, not to an Anakel account. That's what makes it restorable on another device even though Anakel has no accounts: the one who remembers you paid is the store, not us.
5.4 Sharing an image
When you share an item, a quote or your year in review, Anakel renders an image on the phone and hands it to the system share sheet. From there it goes wherever you choose — WhatsApp, the gallery, email — and that app's policy applies. We never see or store that image.
6. Device permissions
Anakel asks for two permissions, both only when they're needed:
- Camera — only for the barcode scanner. The frame is analysed on the device, never saved and never sent anywhere. No photos are taken or stored.
- Photos and storage — only if you pick your own cover from your gallery, or save an export or backup file. Anakel doesn't browse your gallery and doesn't read anything you haven't picked yourself.
If you deny either one, the rest of the app works exactly the same.
7. System backups
Anakel is deliberately excluded from automatic system backups.
On Android the app declares allowBackup="false" and
fullBackupContent="false", so your collection is
not uploaded to Google Drive by the system's automatic backup.
On iOS the database is marked to be excluded from iCloud.
This is on purpose: if we left the system backup on, "your data doesn't leave your phone" would stop being true. The trade-off is that changing phones doesn't carry your collection over by itself: that's what the manual backup in Settings → Data is for, producing a file you control and keep wherever you like. It's free on every plan.
8. The third parties, one by one
This is the complete list. There are no others. Each has its own privacy policy, which we don't control.
| Third party | When it's involved | Their policy |
|---|---|---|
| Open Library (Internet Archive) |
When you search for or scan a book, and when its cover is downloaded. | archive.org/about/terms.php |
| MusicBrainz and Cover Art Archive (MetaBrainz) |
When you search for or scan a record, and when its cover is downloaded. | metabrainz.org/privacy |
| Wikidata (Wikimedia Foundation) |
When you search for films, series, games and other types. | foundation.wikimedia.org |
| Google ML Kit | The first time you open the scanner on each device, to download the model. | developers.google.com/ml-kit/terms |
| RevenueCat | Only if you buy or restore Plus. | revenuecat.com/privacy |
| Google Play | When you install the app and when the purchase is processed. | policies.google.com/privacy |
| App Store (Apple) |
On iOS: when you install the app and when the purchase is processed. | apple.com/legal/privacy |
9. Your rights
Rights of access, rectification, erasure, portability and objection exist for data somebody holds about you. Since Anakel has no account and no server, there is no data of yours in our hands to request or to erase. What you can do, without asking us:
- Access and rectify: it's all in the app, open and editable, on your device.
- Portability: Settings → Data exports your whole collection as CSV or JSON. Free on every plan, and it always will be.
- Erasure: uninstalling the app deletes everything. No copy is left anywhere, because there never was a copy anywhere.
It's explained step by step in Delete your data.
The one exception is your purchase: the record that you bought Plus is held by Google Play or the App Store and by RevenueCat, not by us, and it's managed from your Google or Apple account.
10. Children
Anakel is not directed at children under 13. We collect no personal data from anyone and therefore none from them either. If you're a parent or guardian and have a question, write to soporte@mttechdev.com.
11. What we declare in the stores
This policy and the store listings say the same thing, on purpose. In Google Play's Data safety form and in the App Store's App Privacy section we declare:
- We collect no data through the app: no analytics, no account, no server of ours.
- We share no data with third parties for advertising or measurement.
- No tracking of the user across apps or websites.
- In-app purchases: yes, processed by the store and managed by RevenueCat, which receives an anonymous purchase identifier. That identifier is not linked to your identity by us.
- Queries to the public metadata catalogues are not data collection on our part: we neither receive nor store anything from those queries.
If you ever find a discrepancy between the store listing and this page, it's a mistake on our side: tell us and we'll fix it.
12. Changes to this policy
Since we have no account and no email address of yours, we can't write to you. So changes are published on this same page, with the date at the top updated, and announced inside the app when they affect something material.
If Anakel ever offers server sync — it does not today — that would be a substantive change: it would be announced in the app before being turned on, and it would always be opt-in.
13. Contact
Write to soporte@mttechdev.com with any question about this policy. If yours is a security vulnerability, /.well-known/security.txt explains how to report it.
